This is the lemonade recipe folks used back in the 1800s, and you can recreate it easily! It’s simple to make and absolutely delightful in taste!
Preparation time: 45 min
Cooking time: 20 min
Resting time: N/A
Total time: 1 hour 5 min
Serves: 4
Ingredients:
- 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
- 5 lemons
- 1 1/4 quarts water
Method:
- Peel the rinds from the 5 lemons and slice them into 1/2-inch pieces. Set the lemons aside.
- In a bowl, combine the lemon rinds with sugar, allowing it to stand for about an hour to let the sugar absorb the lemon oils.
- Meanwhile, bring water to a boil in a covered saucepan. Once boiling, pour the hot water over the sugared lemon rinds. Let the mixture cool for 20 minutes, then remove the rinds.
- In another bowl, squeeze the juice from the lemons through a strainer into the sugar mixture. Stir well, transfer to a pitcher, and refrigerate.
- Serve with ice cubes for a refreshing treat!
Notes:
For an extra burst of flavor, consider adding a sprig of fresh mint or a few slices of lemon as garnish when serving your lemonade. It adds a visually appealing touch and enhances the overall taste experience!
